Lynne’s Story

Lynne's Story

Lynne’s Story. Our mum was a fighter. Mum fought that evil disease cancer for the past 10 years until she finally said to us “Enough”. She was tired of fighting and she was ready to go. Mum wanted to die at home amongst all things familiar – her family, her friends, her little dog and her garden. She said, “It hasn’t won you know, I am going to leave this planet on my terms.”

She made sure that she had everything sorted before she became too sick to be able to organise. One thing about Mum was that she always had the last say. While she was well enough, she invited Esther from Swanborough Funerals to come around and pre-arrange her funeral details.

We didn’t want to face this but Mum was determined to have her funeral her way. So it was in Mum’s bedroom with mum propped up in her bed, overlooking her beloved garden with her poodle poppy by her side that we talked about death.

Esther was so gentle and encouraging. She made a very difficult and daunting task intimate and special. We will always treasure that.

Mum Got her wish.

Our precious mother passed away at home in the early hours of Sunday morning surrounded by those she loved. Esther came round to help us wash and dress Mum at home. It was her wish to stay at home for family and friends to visit after she passed. Her poodle Poppy did not leave her side.

People came to pay their respects and then we held Mum’s celebration of life at her church. Mum chose everything “roses”. The coffin was an expressions white printed roses casket, with service sheets and memorial book to match. The largest spray of pink and purple roses covered her coffin.

At Mum’s request the piper played her out of the chapel to Amazing Grace. Before the hearse drove away, we scattered pink and purple rose petals over the vehicle. The piper walked in front of the hearse as Mum went on her final journey with petals floating in the breeze all the way down the road.

Swanborough funerals we thank you.  You listened to our Mum. You cared for Mum in life and in death.  Finally, she is at peace – in no more pain.

We will never forget your kindness.
